AACNRecognizes Excellence at the 2019 Academic Nursing Leadership Conference

At the 2019 Academic Nursing Leadership Conference (ANLC), AACNpresented several awards to well-deserving individuals and schools. The conference was held in Washington, DC, October 19-22.

Dr. Malcom Cox was the recipient of the John P. McGovern Invitational Lectureship Award. Dr. Cox is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He most recently served as the Chief Academic Affiliations Officer for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where he oversaw the largest health professions training program in the country and repositioned the VA as a major voice in clinical workforce reform, educational innovation, and organizational transformation. Upon receiving the award, Dr. Cox delivered the McGovern Lecture to a record number of conference attendees.

The 2019 Lois Capps Policy Luminary Award was presented to Dr. Sally Cohen from New York UniversityCollege of Nursing. Dr. Cohen was cited for her integration of health policy into nursing education, in particular, her focus on health and social policies for children, including healthcare coverage, bullying prevention, and the rights of children. Dr. Cohen is a leader in advancing sound policy principles, with a steadfast commitment in educating future generations of nurses to be life-long advocates for these vital issues.听

Receiving an AACNEmeritus Membership Award was Dr. Judy Beal from Simmons University, an honor granted to those institutional representatives who have retired from the deanship and to whom the honorary title emeritus has been conferred by their respective institutions.听

During her career and 14 years of membership with 91制片厂, Dr. Beal served several terms on the Board of Directors, including service as Chair-Elect from 2018-2019 and as Secretary from 2014-2018. She also served as a member of the Nominating Committee from 2006-2008 and has been a driving force behind 91制片厂's work to advance academic-practice partnerships.

AACNmember institutions also were recognized at the ANLC with several honors.

The Innovations in Professional Nursing Award recognizes pioneering educational initiatives launched by AACNmember institutions. At the ANLC, awards were presented in four institutional categories:

Small/Liberal Arts Colleges: Lakeview College of Nursing
Academic Health Centers category: University of Cincinnati College of Nursing
Private Colleges/University category: University of San Francisco School of Nursing and Health Professions.听
Public Colleges/Universities category: University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee College of Nursing

The Exemplary Academic-Practice Partnership Awards are presented annually to AACNmember schools and their practice partners recognizing highly productive and model academic-practice partnerships. Partnership awards were presented to:听

Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and Emory Healthcare
Old Dominion University School of Nursing and the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and Sentara Interprofessional Care Clinic
University of Cincinnati College of Nursing and Maple Knoll Communities

The New Era for Academic Nursing Award recognizes AACNmember institutions that have successfully implemented recommendations from 91制片厂's report Advancing Healthcare Transformation: A New Era for Academic Nursing. This year's award was presented to the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
